They Think it's Moldova......... It is Now!!!!!!!

Well folks that is Eurovision done for another year. As Pasha and his Moldovian dancers minced off the stage last night, we had seen the last performnace. No more rehearsals, no more press conferences - just an interval act, some (mostly predictable) voting and a great winner and reprise for Loreen and Euphoria!!!! I am delighted to be heading to Sweden. It will be my 6th contest in a 6th different country and i am already excited. There were people at the airport booking up hotels in Sweden already.

I do hope our esteemed editor and chief Keith Mills will change his mind about not coming, nearer the time. I will be there with bells on and I reckon the thought of leaving his website in the hands of Andrew Main and myself might override the one of disappointment in going to Sweden next year.

Again I apologise to the people of this blog for my terrible prediction success but as I have said before I am merely a fan not an expert. Of the 14 countries I predicted could share the top 10 spots I got 8 of them correct which looks pretty decent until you see that the 6 i never got were nowhere near - UK Iceland Ireland Cyprus Ukraine and Romania. Never go to the bookies on my say so.

I am now checked in at the Travel Lodge at Heathrow with the final leg of the journey home tomorrow - bliss. I will leave you with a little annecdote of my flight from Baku to Istanbul!!!
You know you are living the high life when you have to scoot past Zeljko Joksimovic on the plane to get to the toilet in a hurry only to find Kaliopi waiting to get in when you are finished."Elaine Dove - seat warmer for the stars at 35000ft!!!!"

Thankyou all and see you in Sweden 2013 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

LOL. Love the final annecdote. Priceless. Thank you for the wonderful work this past two weeks, you were great, again. Wouldn't worry about the predictions, a lot of people had those countries as doing better than they did.
Hoping Keith changes his mind maybe if it's Gothenberg or Malmo he might? Mind you Buenos Aires is an amazing city so he may be tempted to just stay away. Hope not. You guys are part of the whole process for so many so I hope he rethinks. Okay, glad you got back safely and best of luck on your onward journey. It's been a blast so Thank You once again. Keep popping up when you get a chance as it's always great to come on here and see what you guys are up to. Cheers. Martin McGuinness xxx
Is that THE Martin McGuinness ???
Lol. No, not the one from Sinn Fein but a Martin McGuinness in my own right!Think I friended you on Facebook a while back Andrew. :)
Well in any case Sweden 2013 will be a terrific contest, gotta love a good Swede! :D

And if the iTunes charts are anything to go by this may be the most commercially viable Eurovision winner in a long time, which can only be a good thing for the contest. :)

The final results were a very mixed bag, but with a great winner you can't be too upset about it all. That said if someone can explain to me how Albania came 5th I would appreciate it. :P

Good luck to the AKOE team and bring on Sweden 2013! :D

Well...some of us really liked Albania! I know Rona's singing wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I was very happy she placed so well.

I enjoy reading your blog every year, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WORK AND YOUR TIME!
Well just like Keith I wasn't pleased in the way the Swedish 'victory' was handled by EBU - it is very clear some heavy manipulations were involved here (just a quick look at the voting chart tells a pretty tale) - but the fact is that only Sweden really wanted to win, and only Sweden at the moment have the money to put into it - and that's that!

So let them have their contest, and just like Azerbaijan this get it out of their system for the next 10 years or so.

I don't think Keith should abandon his site and refuse to take the journey to Stockholm next year. I like AKOF very much and like to see / read your views in the blog or video (actually: more debate/briefing video's would be welcomed!)

So Keith: you have about 10 months to calm yourself down and get your tickets to the 2013 contest - wherever it be, even on the moon mate!! Do your job! :-)) lol

Regarding Loreen: to be fair she is better then her song. The song itself is nothing but a medium sized dance-trance track we have in abundance all over the charts. Nothing special. But SHE is rather special and I hope she will produce even better songs in the future. It always amazes me how last year she had the best song in melodi 'My Heart Is Refusing Me' and no one even looked at her (but me!) and the Swedes did not even put her in the final! the idiots.
I was going through chat site and comment boxes asking everybody "why is no one talking about Loreen and her great song?" - but no one would answer me. No one!

And suddenly she is 'fan Favorited'.

Keith is right: he couldn't see the attraction of this track and nor did I. But we were in a very small minority.

I also think the placings of all Top-7 were carefully per-arranged. I just can't believe that Azerbaijan and Turkey got so many points. I am equally baffled by the Estonian success - such a boring song & singer! But I am happy at least Serbia, Albania & Macedonia did well.

And there's your answer right at the end "But we were in a very small minority". Lets just leave the conspiracy theories at home. If you think the EBU can manipulate a televote across Europe or just plain fix the results you need to sit back and give things a rest for a while.

For your love of Macedonia and Serbia, I hated those songs and I loved Estonia that you hated. Just accept that with millions of people voting your always going to get songs in the Top 10 that you don't like and you do like. I also didn't like Turkey and was ambivalent about Azerbaijan.

Please just because a person doesnt like the winner, dummies get thrown out of the pram.. In my humble opinion this is one of the best winners ever...We were 9 at home and 7 of us voted it the winner, all have various tastes and are not major esc fans...I have just heard it played on a youth mainstream radio channel, never heard an esc winner played there before.. I like this much better than Fairytale, This is a worthy winner, it is very arrogant for a site owner to be so childish, this is a wonderful site, to throw it away over such trivia is an insult to us who suppoort it... go Sweden, I will be there, go Loreen and go Euphoria, I am so happy...However I am concerned at the popularity of such a bad song and performance as Azerbaijan...
I agree. My sister in her late forties and my niece who is eleven both picked Sweden out from the semi-final and they hadn't heard any of the songs before that.
I figure Keith has some *really* sour grapes about his predictions being wrong and Sweden winning. However, complaining in the winner in any other way than saying you didn't like the song and explaining why others deserved it better is plain childish, as is boycotting a contest because of a song. Heck, if you could go to Azerbaijan, who clearly violated human rights even during the contest, Sweden should be a piece of cake.

Also, I think Sweden was simply the best all-round, and had been thinking that way since the first MF semi.
To be fair to Keith sometimes we all wear our hearts on our sleeve and I am the first to say I get things wrong. I hated the Albanian song and never saw it qualifying - we are just giving our opinions. Keith has said for a while he will take a break and he has already been to a contest in Sweden - the decision is completey up to him but he will make it with his head and not beacause of "sour grapes" or anything else. I hope he changes his mind because his opinion is of value to a lot of people. It doesnt mean we will always agree with it.

He will be back and I hope he will be in Sweden - otherwise i might have to do more work lol x
Hilarious scene you paint there at 35,000 ft Elaine. You're some ticket! :D
Well done to all three of you for the updates provided in the lead up to the contest & from Baku itself. The AKOE coverage undoubtedly adds to the ESC for many - including yours truly.

He probably doesn't even remember this, but Keith gave Azerbaijan a (very) early mention as a possible each-way bet & it came up trumps. Cheers, man! Happy enough to see Sweden win through but the whole thing has become so difficult to predict that it's probably best just to go along for the ride & hope for the best. Look at poor Denmark who deserved better IMO.....Iceland too. But, at the end of the day, there can only be one winner. Well done Sweden!

Hopefully Keith changes his mind about not travelling to Sweden. But if not, we can only hope our dynamic duo (dare I say Batwoman & Robin?!) are willing, ready and able to carry the AKOE torch on location. Well done all once again. All roads lead to Sweden.....
lol cheers Sean - i only wish the picture i painted was not true but indeed it was ha ha

Glad you enjoyed the coverage x

I've posted comments loads of times on this blog - nothing too controversial or offensive - but I'm never published. I'm only typing this now to see if I miraculously make the cut. And if I do, I have f*** a** to say!
Im not totally sure how the comments work on here but rest assured your "f**k all to say" is of value to me lol x
I hated both the swedish and the albanian entry (gave me asthma)...but love you guys....I totally respect Keith not wanting to go to sweden so I say STAY AWAY AND KEEP THE DISTANCE EYE I SURE AM GOING TO...love you guys as always

Thank you all for your great comments - you are always first on the spot. Even if one doesn't always agree with you, your views are always interesting and well written.
Only sad thing is that you stop your updates so suddenly after the final - guess we all need a post-traumatic therapy group.

But hope you will all be back next year. cheers
That your final comments on the firago of an international song competion produces 29 comments on your site shows just how wonderfully important your sire is. By Monday morning the Eurovision village was down - destroyed. Your magnificent press centre next to the Crystal hall is gone. The crystal hall is now called the Haydar Aliyev Hall of Europe. Where wewre the comments about the police atrocities here during the contest and the mainfest corruption? Total fucking silence. Who paid you guys? During this contest you played into the hands of the EBU, the Azeribaijani government and it's cliques. Shame on you all. And if you think that not attending next years cotes will wash away the sins in the confessional - think again. You quoted the comments of last years winners at the end of Dusseldorf by the crowd Azerbaijan schisse - Go on admit it - and you came here to wallow in the Azerbaijan Governments merde. Now you don't want to go to Stockholm or wherever the Swedes decide to hold it next year. Fantastic maybe you are accepting the mess that the Swedish fuck Stockcube made of our fantastic comepetition. I'm no longer a fan of the contest that I used to be in let's say 2002. Bring back total jury voting, get rid of the fireworks, dancing, mincing, dancing, and open language rules. Get rid of the feedback to the singers, get rid of the miming musicians, and make this thing a song contest again rather than a over-hyped kareoke extravaganza that the Swedish "stockfucker" turned it into. Tell me why this fortnight of rubbish should be allowed to continue. It's become a massive festival of corruption. If you watch the BBC Panorama prog, the EBU tacitly admit that the Azerbaijan production was bought. The Germans produced the contest this year. The Azeri's were unable to produce the show themselves - used turks to build the hall and their secret police to force people out of their homes to produce the show. You sad sad people.
Interesting given your hatred of Sweden (and by inference Loreen from your previous comments), she was the only artist I am aware of who mentioned the human rights situation in Azerbaijan during her time at the contest.

And if you're going to comment further could you please spend less time swearing and insulting people. It only undermines any argument you choose to make. You sound like a five year old having a temper tantrum.

I don't think you should have to defend yourself Elaine. Any right-minded person would know you and the team were there to report on the song contest you love. And I for one thoroughly enjoyed hearing your opinions and seeing the photos. It makes the contest even more exciting.

At the end of the day it's three nights of great fun and entertainment.

Thanks again to all the team for their comments and work to bring the comments alive. Please don't be put off by nutters with their comments!

lol My Hero (or heorine) as it does not say who you are

Thanks for the support - there is no counting for some lol x
When will we get the results of the top 5 predictions? I don't even remember who I put in there... I think the UK, so I definitely won't win.
