Songs from Spain, Armenia and Montenegro

3 more Eurovision entries to add to the list tonight.

And what a shock in Spain!!  Just kidding.  It was no surprise at all that 'Baila el Chiki Chiki' was going to win.  Caza Azul was good but I thought Coral was excellent on stage in the final.  This is another song to add to the joke/gimmick/novelty songs this year.  Eurovision has always had novelty songs almost every year but this year there are so many!!!  How will Spain do in Belgrade?  I may be wrong but I think pretty badly!!!  Its a terrible song and it make Dustin's song look like a masterpiece.  I feel sorry for the singers/composers who went through the selection process in Spain to be beaten by this one!

Armenia , on the other hand, has chosen a good song to send to Belgrade.  'Qele Qele' is a strong song and Sirusho put on a strong performance of the song in the final .  HOWEVER,she was miming and I still have to hear her sing this song live.  So, it is a great song and it has the potential to do really well, in my opinion, in Belgrade but I weant to hear her sing it LIVE.  Does she know she will not be able to mime in Belgrade?

And finally, Montenegro.  Oh dear.  This better not be Stefan's stage performance in Belgrade as it was appalling.  The song is average on first hearing and forgotten soon afterwards.  It's better than 2007 but that would not have been difficult.  I wonder will it be sung in English in Belgrade?  This one was a disappointment for me.

And , as a footnote, Carola did NOT get to the MF Final!  I'm sure she must think that she is dreaming and it's still only Friday.  Sanna will not be happy with Sibel getting through as this may take votes away from her as its also a strong ballad, but overall, it has the makings of a good Swedish final and, despite Charlotte Pirelli taking part, I dont think that the result is a foregone conclusion by any means!

Hopefully Belgium, Portugal and Russia can choose some good songs for Belgrade tomorrow (or is that tonight??)

Time for bed!!

Belgium, Russia and Portugal choose tonight

The last night of multiple finals for 2008, tonight 3 countries will choose their respective entries to send to Belgrade.

5 songs fight for the Belgian ticket.  Personally I don't dislike any of them.  Nelson is a good one, but I think the fight will be between Sandrine and Ishtar.  Now, every year there is usually one song that I hear in a national final that I really really like and want to go to Eurovision.  Up to now, I have not heard that song.  Now I have.  Please Belgium, send Ishtar!!  I love it!  How will it do in Eurovision if it wins?  I have no idea as yet but I still want it to go!  I know it is in an imaginary language but, if I was Belgian, and had finished 2nd in 2003 with an imaginary language song and then had received pretty poor results for the following years, it would not bother me to send an imaginary language song once more.  Now, if Sandrine wins, I will not be distraught as it is also a really good song but It's Ishtar for me.

Russia has 27 songs in its final, almost as many as last year's Eurovision semi final!!  Dima Bilan's ( or whatever he may call himself in the future) song is nice but I dont think it's as good as his runner up entry in 2006. If the rumours are true, the one to beat is Sergey Lazarev with ' Flyer (Under Fire)'  If this wins, Russia will definitely be very high up on the scoreboard once again in 2008 and may be at the top for the first time methinks.

Now, people who know me know that I love Portugal in Eurovision, even though I have never ever been to Portugal (I must have been Portuguese in a previous life),  and would love them to win.  I have championned them when no one else would so I hope that there will be a great choice of songs in tonight's final since I have not heard any of them yet!!  Please Portugal, don't let me down!

Hope everyone enjoys tonight's finals!

Russia, Belgium and Portugal reaction

3 more Eurovision entries chosen.

Well, it was a surprise to me anyway!  Dima Bilan will go to Eurovision for the 2nd time. I must admit I find the song a bit underwhelming but having heard it a few times and watched it, it is improving.  At the moment, don't see it as a Eurovision winner but a lot of changes can happen between now and May. Still disappointed as I think there were better, more deserving, songs in the Russian Final

I can go to bed happy as Ishtar are off to Belgrade for Belgium.  I think that this song will divide opinion but I'm just so glad it won!  It adds more variety to the contest and I am so happy VRT decided to take a risk but looking at the results for VRT over the years, they have nothing really to lose!

Now I am not biased but I have to say that I thought taht the Portuguese final was one of the best of the year, great set of songs, nice interval and a great winner!  I did like Song 10 MAGICANTASTICAMENTE by Bla Bla Bla, it was a fun song but the winning song SENHORA DO MAR by Vania Fernandes is a really georgeous emotional song.  I cant see Portugal winning with it but getting to the final would be a bonus after Sabrina was so robbed of one last year lol..

The host country Serbia's decision is next!
