Here is my review of the Norwegian Final.
Song 1. Tooji - Stay
A good opener to the Final this is a good modern pop song with a good looking
guy singing it, its style reminds me of Eric Saade last year but I think this is
a better song that Popular. Hope it does well from the early start 5/6.
Song 2. Reidun Sæther – High on love
Well its clear from the start that this is powerful Swedish style schlager from
Lord G:son. It needs a strong vocal to pull this one off and Reidun certainly seems
to have that one in the bag. It has everything you would expect from the style
including the obligatory key change and pyros. Its a decent song but the style
we have seen many times before. 4/6
Song 3. Lise Karlsnes - Sailors
This won the wildcard to get to the final. Its a credible enough sounding pop song
with an interesting synth beat to it, vocally sounds ok and makes use of backing
dancers and shadow screens. Don't think it will win though and is probably just
making up the numbers. 3/6
Song 4. Plumbo – Ola Nordmann
This is apparently the one to beat, its annoyingly catchy and is a Fiddle dee dee
tin whistle song with a slightly rocky edge to it, oh and it has a key change and
some pyros. Its so annoyingly catchy that I think it will do very well in this final
and if it goes to Baku could be a big hit there too. 6/6
Song 5. Malin Reitan - Crush
Malin is an ex Junior Eurovision entrant for Norway and it shows in this song.
Its very adolescent but also comes across as a fairly decent pop song with a high
energy disco beat which does become a bit repetitive. Not sure it has the necessary
punch to take it over the edge and is missing that extra oomph. 4/6
Song 6. Nora Foss Al-Jabri – Somewhere beautiful
This is like a theme from a Disney movie or a West End Stage Musical.
Nora has an amazing voice and an even more amazing powerful ballad.
It builds like its title suggest to somewhere beautiful. This fully deserves to go
all the way to Baku and would be a very popular choice. 6/6
Song 7. Carburetors – Don't touch the flame
Ok so this is heavy metal rock, which is proving to be quite common in many
Scandinavian Finals over the last few years. It used to be a genre I loved and
as things go this is a good example of the genre, an instantly likeable song
extremely easy to remember and pretty well sung vocally. 5/6
Song 8. Petter Øien & Bobby Bare – Things change
I generally hate country music, blame my father for playing it to death when I was
young. So this does not bode well for this song. Its tuneful enough but does absolutely nothing for me whatsoever. If Norway choose this I know when I will be skipping off
for another drink or whatever. 1/5
Song 9. Yaseen & Julie Maria - Sammen
Well I have to admit that this song is in another genre that I generally hate, Rap!
Its probably very good for what it is but i cannot for the life of me see the attraction.
Its just a noise to me not music and cannot for the life of me see why it made the final.
If it makes the top 4 i will be shocked. 1/5
Song 10. Tommy Fredvang – Make it better
Now this is more like the stuff I like to see in Eurovision. A good finish to the show
and a memorable catchy pop song. Well sung with a smattering of pryo too.
Not sure th epublic will go for this over others but it has a good chance I think. 5/6
So to recap I expect Plumbo to win but would be delighted if Nora won too.
Failing this would be quite happy with Carburetors or Tommy F or Tooji as well.
